Guardian Pool Fencing

Guardian Pool Fencing

Founded in 1995, Guardian Pool Fence Systems has been providing pool safety solutions to homeowners for more than 20 years. CEO Steven Sadinsky worked as a dealer of mesh pool fences for seven years before starting Guardian. When he did launch the business, he paired his industry knowledge with his first-hand experience as a father to try building safer, more sophisticated pool fences and gates.

Location and Availability of Guardian Pool Fence Products

Guardian mesh pool fences have gone global in the two-plus decades since Sadinsky began his journey as an entrepreneur. Guardian Pool Fence Systems is headquartered in Van Nuys, California and directly serves customers in Los Angeles, Ventura County, Orange County, and San Diego from that location. However, the company also has a slew of certified dealers that serve the rest of the United States and Canada. Guardian dealers have also brought Guardian safety fences to Africa, Europe, and South America.

In other words, Guardian pool fences are widely and readily available to consumers in the United States. It should be noted that Guardian’s fences and gates are designed to comply with Los Angeles City and County building codes. L.A. has stricter regulations than most other areas in the United States. However, if you decide to install Guardian safety fence in another city, county, or state, you should check your local codes to make sure you are compliant.

Guardian Fence Patents and Points of Interest

Guardian is different from other pool safety fence manufacturers in a few ways.

Guardian’s pool fences and pool fence gates are not made from iron, steel, glass, or other conventional materials. Instead, Guardian’s claim to fame is the popularization of removable mesh pool fences. Before Guardian came along, mesh pool fences were frequently rejected by building departments or considered as not being “up to code.” The impermanence of the systems, many thought, made them inherently unsafe.

Guardian’s mesh pool fencing solved the problem. Furthermore, Guardian’s design had a mild mesh design that was both attractive and safe for kids to play near. Other types of fences were too easy for kids to run into, or to scrape themselves on and get hurt. Guardian safety fences flipped the script by being as soft as window screens.

A bit later, Guardian designed what was called a “locking sleeve” for its fences. This feature made it easy for homeowners to put up the fence and then lock it into place. The fences were still removable, but they could not be moved or dissembled without the use of tools. In doing so, Guardian made it so that movable mesh pool fences could finally meet building codes and safety regulations.

Guardian also took steps to make pool fence gates a little safer. In 1997, the company developed a mesh gate that was lockable, self-latching, self-closing, and exceedingly difficult for children to climb. Guardian’s pool fence gate was so revolutionary that other pool fencing companies started mimicking the design to ramp up the safety of their systems.

All Guardian’s innovations have left the company with half a dozen United States patents. The first was a 1997 patent for the above-mentioned self-closing, climb-resistant mesh pool fence gate. Other patents include one for Guardian’s locking deck sleeve and another from the company’s “no holes” pool fencing system. The “no holes” fencing solution is ideal for homeowners who don’t want to drill holes in their decks for a pool fence installation. These systems use heavy bases as the foundations for fences and gates. When filled with sand or water, these bases are weighty enough that they are difficult to move. These innovations, similarly to Life Saver Pool Fence’s pole designs, are pushing this industry to produce safer products which is great for the consumer.

The Drawbacks of Guardian Pool Fences

Guardian pool fencing tends to be reasonably acclaimed across the board. Still, some customers have criticized the company for charging premium prices for systems that aren’t as durable as they should be. Occasionally, the mesh fibers on the fences or pool fence gates will start to fray after a few years. The barriers are also not ideal for homes with pets, as cats with claws or big dogs can rip and tear through the mesh easily.

The good news is that Guardian offers lifetime warranty coverage on its fences. However, having your fence repaired every three or four years can be an irritation and can compromise the overall safety of your pool fencing system.
