Alternatives to Mesh and Iron

Alternatives to Mesh and Iron

Most of the talk regarding pool fences is going to revolve around iron and mesh options. Those two are by far the leading choices on the market today, and they take up the bulk of the market share. With that said, they are not the only options you can consider. There are other types of pool fences available for your consideration, and you may find that one of them is actually the best pick for you and your property.

Three of the notable alternatives to mesh or iron pool fencing are glass, wood, and chain link. You might have a number of different motivations for looking into one of these options as opposed to the market leaders. Perhaps you aren’t happy with cost of mesh or iron, which would be a reason to look into chain link. Adding a chain link fence is probably the most affordable choice you have available to you in terms of a pool fence, however they don’t offer much in the way of security in many cases.

If your concerns are more visual than anything else, you might steer yourself in the glass or wood direction, depending on your tastes and the style of your yard. A glass pool fence offers a decidedly modern look, with the ability to see right through to the pool area itself. This is great if your pool is located in an area which offers a view, as you won’t have to obstruct the view in order to add security to the lot.

With wood, you can carry the theme of your home out onto the property by tying in the same visual effects that are used in other parts of the house. For instance, you could use the same kind of paint or stain that you used on your deck in order to provide continuity to the space. There are some security concerns with certain types of wood pool fences, however, as they can be relatively easy to climb. Make sure your design is carefully created in order to avoid any problems with safety after the fence is installed.

For most people, it is going to be best to stick with one of the two options that lead the way in the pool fence market. There is a reason mesh and iron are such common choices – they do a great job of serving this purpose. Mesh is the more affordable of the two in most situations, but they can each work nicely depending on your tastes, budget, landscape, and more. Before you opt for one of the ‘alternative options’, be sure to at least consider going in the mesh or metal direction.

Generally speaking, you want two things out of a pool fence – you want it to provide the safety and security you need, and you want it to look great. If you don’t feel that mesh or metal are hitting on both of those points for you, it may be time to look into choices such as glass, wood, or chain link.
